At the retirement home of Bethania they are strong believers in keeping the elder’s active and postponing the effects of dementia as long as possible. Through sessions with the staff the elders are presented with objects that they can relate to their youth and life in general thus stimulating the flow of blood to the brain. These sessions help them to keep their identity and dignity and to stay mentally fit longer. Our idée was to create a portable interactive “box” of memories. Familiar Things was our final prototype and we tested it out at the Betania home before presenting it to the invited faculty. A video exists of this test and a screening can be arranged if it has interest.
